Other information: PDM was once part of the Pittsburgh-Des Moines Steel Company, a nationwide American steel fabrication company. In 1954, the Pittsburgh-Des Moines Steel Company began a new venture, PDM Steel Service Centers, with the acquisition of the Proctor-James Steel Company in San Jose, California. In 1955, PDM purchased Kyle & Company, with California facilities in Fresno, Stockton and Sacramento; and in 1962 a new warehouse facility was constructed in Fresno. Then in 1968, PDM Steel complete construction of a large state-of-the-art service center in Stockton, which became the geographical hub of the service wheel to the other PDM service centers.

In 2001, PDM Steel was acquired by Reliance Steel & Aluminum Co. In 2005, the company moved into a full-service warehouse in Las Vegas, Nevada, delivering throughout Southern Nevada and into Southern Utah.

In 2008 PDM acquireds Engbar Pipe and Steel in Denver, Colorado, expanding its service and product offering into the greater Colorado market and parts of Wyoming. The same year, PDM also built and moved into a cutting edge facility in Las Vegas (with a complete product offering with multiple processing capabilities serving the Southern Nevada market and parts of Utah, Arizona and California) and purchased a multifunction precision plate processing center in Fresno.

In 2011, with installation of a 1000-ton press brake, PDM Steel added heavy plate forming capabilities to its Plate Processing Center. In 2012 the company added two multi-axis beveling machines to its Plate Processing Center in Fresno, plus a laser cutting machine at its Sparks location. In 2013 the firm acquired the Stockton location of Feralloy Western Division, expanding PDM's products to include flat rolled steel and slit coil, and offering greater cut-to-length capabilities.
