Other information: Sarda Energy & Minerals Limited was incorporated in 1973 and is a vertically integrated producer of steel with a captive iron ore mine. The firm is a manufacturer and exporter of niche grade manganese based ferro alloys.

SEML is a low cost producer of steel (including pellets, sponge iron, billets, ferro alloys, wire rod, eco bricks) and is one of the largest manufacturers and exporters of manganese ferro alloys in India, with exports to more than 60 countries. Ferro alloys are produced in submerged arc furnaces using an electrothermic process (from raw materials that include manganese ore, fluxes such as dolomite & quartz and reductants such as coal, coke and charcoal).

Sponge Iron or Direct Reduced Iron is also produced by SEML through reduction of iron ore (in the form of lumps and pellets) using non-coking coal in a rotary kiln. The majority of the sponge iron produced at SEML is however used internally to produce steel billets through the induction furnace route. Annual SEML DRI production capacity is 360,000 tonnes.

Headquartered in Raipur Chhattisgarh, the company merged Chhattisgarh Electricity Company Limited (CECL) with itself in 2007 with a vision to becoming a leading energy and minerals company.
