Other information: The Iron Ore Company of Canada (IOC - French: Compagnie Miniere IOC) is a Canada-based producer of iron ore. The company was founded in 1949. Current shareholders include Rio Tinto (majority owner) as well as the Mitsubishi Corporation and the Labrador Iron Ore Royalty Company (both minority shareholders).
With headquarters in Montreal, IOC has mining and concentrator operations in Labrador City (Labrador City Mine - with mining, crushing, beneficiation and pelletising operations) and operates the Quebec North Shore and Labrador Railway to ship ore concentrate from mine to port (Sept-Iles, Quebec). After processing iron ore at Labrador City, this rail facility transports the ore 418 km south to the company's shipping terminal and deepwater port at Sept-Iles. Trains can haul up to 24,000 tonnes of ore in 265 cars stretching some 2.5 kilometers in length.
